Dr. DeAnna Moreau was named 2025 Math Specialist Educator of the Year by the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She is the elementary math curriculum specialist for Chesterfield County Public Schools and also serves as an adjunct professor at George Mason University and Averett University.
In announcing the award, which was presented in June, the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics wrote, “Your exceptional contributions to mathematics education have been recognized. … This prestigious award truly honors and acknowledges your passion, ingenuity and dedication.”
Dr. Moreau noted that this recognition carries extra meaning because her mother, Patricia Taylor, who taught math at Meadowbrook High, won this award in 1990.
A colleague who nominated Dr. Moreau wrote, “Dr. Moreau’s leadership stretches beyond the boundaries of our school division as she invests time in partnering with neighboring school divisions to create and develop a curriculum to lift the state’s mathematical standards of learning. She possesses excellent communication skills and an innate ability to inspire and motivate her peers. Her unwavering dedication to ensuring teachers have a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and have the resources to lift learning to create young mathematicians in every school demonstrates her genuine passion for making a difference. … She is a champion for children and keeps what is best for students at the center of her work.”
